Student plan

The Student plan gives students at supported universities a free daily allowance on the models we run on our own GPUs in Egypt, for a year at a time. Every other model stays available at the standard pay-as-you-go rates.

The daily amount, the models it covers and the plan's limits are shown under Dashboard → Billing → Plans. They can change over time; the page always shows the current ones.

Who can join

  • A personal account. The plan applies to your personal organization, not to team organizations.
  • A verified account email. Use the link we emailed you when you signed up.
  • A verified mobile number that isn't verified on another SovereignEG account. If it's missing, the Student card lets you verify it first.
  • Your own university email address at a supported university. The Student card lists the supported universities.

A university email address can be used by one SovereignEG account only, ever, even after that account is closed, and our support team can't move it to another account. Never share a verification code: whoever enters it links the address to their account.

Verify your university email

  1. Open Dashboard → Billing → Plans.
  2. On the Student card, enter your university email address and choose Send code.
  3. We email a 6-digit code to that address. It expires after a few minutes; the card shows how long you have.
  4. Enter the code and choose Verify.

If your account email is your address at a supported university, the Student card offers Use my account email in place of steps 2 to 4: no code needed. It works only the first time you verify; renewing every year uses a code. To verify a different address, choose Use a different university email.

Your Student plan starts at once, and today's free allowance appears within a minute.

We don't keep the university email address you verify. We keep a one-way keyed hash of it, so that it can't be used on a second account, and its domain (for example std.cu.edu.eg). If you also use that address as your account email, it is stored as your account email, like any other. See the Privacy Policy.

Using the allowance

  • Requests to the plan's models are paid from the day's free allowance first. It renews at 00:00 Cairo time, and what you don't use doesn't carry over.
  • When the day's allowance is used up, by default those models are charged to your credit balance at standard rates. With no balance, they answer 402 daily_allowance_exhausted until the allowance renews.
  • You can turn that off on the Plans page: switch off Use balance automatically. The plan's models then stop once the day's allowance (and any model credit for them) is used up, answering 402 daily_allowance_exhausted until 00:00 Cairo time, and your balance is never charged for them. Switch it back on to go back to paying from your balance.
  • Every other model is charged to your balance as usual.
  • The plan's limits apply on the plan's models only, whether the allowance or your balance pays. Its requests per minute are one budget shared by all your API keys; every other model keeps your account's normal limit for each API key.
  • The free allowance runs on GPUs shared by every Student and Developer plan. At busy times a request can be refused with 429 allowance_capacity_busy: retry after a few seconds, or use a pay-as-you-go model.

The plan's request limits are explained in Rate Limits, and its error codes in Error Codes.

Renewing every year

A verification lasts 365 days. In its last 30 days the Student card lets you verify again with a new code. The new year starts when the current one ends, so renewing early costs you nothing. We email a reminder to your account email 14 days before the end.

You can renew with another supported university address of yours, for example after a transfer. Every address you verify stays linked to your account.

If you don't renew, the Student plan and its free daily allowance end on that date. Your account stays open, and you can keep using every model.

With a Developer Pack

You can upgrade to a Developer Pack: on the Plans page, choose Upgrade to Developer Pack, or Upgrade on the pack you want. The Developer Pack applies while it runs. Your Student plan continues underneath, applies again when the pack ends, and keeps its own end date. You can renew it in the meantime.

Leave the Student plan

You can leave the Student plan yourself at any time: on the Plans page, choose Leave Student plan next to your Student plan, or Leave the Student plan on the Student card, and confirm.

  • It ends at once: the free daily allowance stops, and your account goes back to its standard plan.
  • If a Developer Pack is running, it keeps running. When it ends, you go back to the standard plan instead of Student.
  • To join again later, verify your university email with a new code on the Student card. You can only do that while the Student plan is open to new sign-ups.

When the Student plan can end early

  • Eligibility. Our team can end the Student plan on an account that doesn't meet these conditions or isn't used fairly. We usually tell you by email, and you can reply within 14 days if you think it's a mistake.
  • New sign-ups paused. We can pause new student sign-ups at any time. Students already on the plan keep it and can still renew.
  • End of the program. If we end the Student plan for everyone, we email you at least 30 days before its last day.

Errors

The Student card shows the reason for every refusal. The codes are listed in Error Codes.
